Playin’ Tenco
Il progetto “Playin’ Tenco” nasce dalla profonda passione del leader Simone Locarni nei confronti del cantautorato italiano, ma anche di una condivisa esigenza stilistica: esaltare la potenza evocativa delle melodie di Luigi Tenco sacrificando però i meravigliosi testi, a cui comunque è stata resa più volte giustizia dalle antologie e dai numerosi tributi: la peculiarità del progetto sta dunque nell’interpretazione esclusivamente strumentale delle opere del cantautore piemontese. Il compito di esaltare queste melodie è stato affidato al clarinetto di Mario Biasio, perchè nessuno più di lui e del suo strumento avrebbe saputo filtrare la sinuosità e la leggerezza della voce di Tenco tramite una via non più vocale. La navigazione del concerto è poi dolcemente mossa dagli intervisti contrabbassistici e contrappuntistici di Stefano Solani, la cui liricità emerge con propompenza crescente verso i brani conclusivi del disco; le trame ritmiche sono infine tessute dalla batteria di Nicola Stranieri, che con zampate ben assestate riesce a impreziosire ulteriormente il valore già intrinsecamente elevato dei brani.
Il risultato è un disco vario, arioso, frutto del continuo e scrupoloso lavoro di perfezionamento collettivo degli arrangiamenti del pianista Simone Locarni, senza però mai perdere di vista l’unico e fondamentale obiettivo: agire sempre e solo nel solco della poetica tenchiana. I mezzi utilizzati sono di conseguenza molteplici, a sottolineare l’unicità di un progetto che ha voluto usare il linguaggio e le convenzioni jazzistiche non come scopo, bensì come mezzo stilistico, nel tentativo costante di richiamare virtualmente Tenco sul palco attraverso la risonanza della sua assenza, e inducendo così gli ascoltatori ad abbandonare solamente per un’ora le meravigliose liriche, lasciando trionfare solo e soltanto la musica.
The project “Playin Tenco” was born from the deep appreciation of the group’s leader, Simone Locarni, for this artist’s work and also from a shared stylistic need: to feature the evocative powers of Luigi Tenco’s melodies, by sacrificing the marvelous texts, which have often been lauded in anthologies and numerous homages: the particularity of this project resides in the exclusively instrumental interpretation of the Piedmontese artist. The task of exposing these melodies has been given to the clarinet of Mario Biasio, because no other than he and his instrument could filrter the sinuousness and lightness of Tenco’s voice in a non-vocal manner. The course of the concert is lightly animated by interventions and counterpoints of the bassist Stefano Solani, whose lyricism emerges with a growing artistry in the last songs of the album: the rhythmic textures are woven together by the drums of Nicola Strnieri, who, with well assured beats, succeeds in further embellishing the high intrinsic value of the pieces.
The final project is a CD both light and airy, resulting from a continuous and scrupulous collective refinement of pianist Simone Locarni’s arrangements, while never losing sight of the unique and fundamental objective: follow solely the traces of the poetry of Tenco. The means employed are numerous, to highlight the unique character of a project that hopes to use the conventions of language and jazz not for objective, but as a stylistic device, with the constant goal of virtually honoring Tenco on stage through the echos of his absence. And by obliging, if only for an hour, the audience to abandon the marvelous texts and let the music triumph.
Le projet “Playin ‘Tenco” est né de la profonde passion de son leader Simone Locarni pour l’auteur-compositeur-interprète italien, mais aussi d’un besoin stylistique commun: exalter le pouvoir évocateur des mélodies de Luigi Tenco, en sacrifiant les merveilleux textes, auxquels il a toutefois été rendu plusieurs fois justice dans les anthologies et dans de nombreux hommages: la particularité du projet réside donc dans l’interprétation exclusivement instrumentale des œuvres de l’auteur-compositeur interprète piémontais. La tâche d’exalter ces mélodies a été confiée à la clarinette de Mario Biasio, car personne autant que lui et son instrument n’auraient pu filtrer la sinuosité et la légèreté de la voix de Tenco d’ une façon non vocale. La navigation du concert est ensuite doucement animée par les interventions contrebassistes et contrapuntistes de Stefano Solani, dont le lyrisme émerge avec une propension croissante dans les dernières pièces de l’album; les textures rythmiques sont finalement tissées par la batterie de Nicola Stranieri, qui, avec des coups de pattes bien assurées, parvient à embellir davantage la valeur déjà intrinsèquement élevée des pièces.
Le produit final est un disque varié et aérien, résultat du travail continu et scrupuleux de raffinement collectif des arrangements du pianiste Simone Locarni, mais sans jamais perdre de vue l’objectif unique et fondamental: agir toujours et uniquement sur les traces de la poésie de Tenco. Les moyens utilisés sont donc multiples, pour souligner le caractère unique d’un projet qui souhaitait utiliser les conventions du langage et du jazz non comme objectif, mais comme un moyen stylistique, dans le but constant de rappeler virtuellement Tenco sur la scène à travers la résonance de son absence. et en obligeant , pendant une heure les auditeurs à abandonner les merveilleuses paroles, en laissant que la musique triomphe.
